Wills
Chattertons Private Client department have a wealth of experience and knowledge
dealing with matters relating to Wills and Probate.
Why do I need to make a Will?
Wills are not just about money but also about meeting responsibilities and securing
the future for your dependants.
If you die without a Will then the law decides how the property is divided among
your family. This may be in a way you would not wish. Leaving a properly drawn Will
can:
- Help your family to deal with your affairs at a time when they will find it difficult
to cope.
- Ensure that you appoint an executor of your choice to deal with all the paperwork
and procedures and that appropriate guardians are appointed to look after your children.
- Create trusts to provide for your family especially if you die when your children
are still young.
- Contain particular gifts or sums of money for specific people or charities.
- Minimise and restrict tax liabilities.
- Provide for your first family as well as your second if you remarry (remember that
a spouse has rights that an unmarried partner does not if you die without making
a Will).
- Make sure your business is passed on successfully.
- Leave you with peace of mind.
How long does a Will Last?
You should review your Will regularly. Your financial circumstances may have altered
or a beneficiary may have died. Marriage invalidates any previously made Will.
