Fines & Penalties

It is a criminal offence to hire illegal workers in the UK. A business caught doing so could be fined up to £20,000 per illegal worker. If you do not have a sponsor licence in place, or you do not regularly check the immigration status of your employees you could be fined or prosecuted.

If your business is being faced with a fine or another form of penalty, we may be able to help you with preparing a defence. Home Office fines can be challenged and it is possible to have them reduced or revoked entirely in some cases.

Business that fail to comply with their penalties often have their names published on a list available to the public in an attempt to ‘name and shame’ the employers of illegal workers. This is a PR nightmare so it is best to seek advice if you have received or believe you may receive a penalty from the Home Office.
