NEW REGULATIONS REGARDING PARENTAL BEREAVEMENT TO COME INTO FORCE THIS YEAR

On 23 January 2020 the Government announced that from 06 April 2020 the rights under the Parental Bereavement Leave Regulations 2020 and the Statutory Parental Bereavement Pay (General) Regulations 2020 will come into effect.

The right to leave will mean that any employee who loses a child under the age of 18, or suffers a stillbirth after 24 weeks' of pregnancy will be entitled to two weeks' statutory leave to be taken in one block or as two separate blocks of a week.

In order to be entitled to pay during such leave, the employee must have at least 26 weeks' service and must meet the minimum earnings criteria.

Statutory parental bereavement pay will be £151.20 per week, or 90% of weekly earnings if lower.

The new legislation will be known as Jack's Law, in memory of Jack Herd whose mother Lucy campaigned on the issue
