Work Experience

We’re proud to offer students and aspiring professionals the chance to gain hands-on experience across a variety of departments within our firm. Whether you're studying for your GCSEs, A Levels or working towards a degree, our work experience programme is designed to give you a meaningful insight into the legal profession. You’ll have the opportunity to build your skills, grow your confidence, and explore potential career paths in a welcoming and supportive environment.

During your placement, you may gain exposure to areas such as Family Law, Commercial Property, Residential Conveyancing, Court of Protection, Private Client, Dispute Resolution, Personal Injury — and many more. Each experience is tailored to help you understand how legal theory translates into practice, guided by professionals who are passionate about what they do.

Throughout your placement, you’ll spend each day shadowing a different team member, gaining first-hand insight into their role and responsibilities. You’ll also be given tasks to complete that are designed to deepen your understanding of the legal profession and help you develop practical skills in a real-world setting.

Programme Eligibility

Our Work Experience programme is open to students at GCSE, A Level, and degree level, studying law or related fields. We welcome applications from individuals who are genuinely curious about the legal profession, demonstrate strong academic potential, and communicate with confidence and clarity.

How to Apply

To apply, simply contact our dedicated Work Experience email inbox recruitment@chattertons.com during an application period. You’ll also need to attach your CV and a short cover letter telling us why you’re interested in Chattertons and which practice areas you’d like to explore. Don’t forget to let us know which of our offices you’d prefer to attend for your placement!

We offer a limited number of placements each year and aim to support as many students as possible during that time. Opportunities are currently available across the following offices:

• Boston
• Grantham
• Horncastle
• Lincoln
• Newark
• Spalding
• Stamford

Due to high demand, we run three application periods annually to help manage the process smoothly:

• February to April placements – apply between 1^st – 30^th January
• May to July placements – apply between 1^st – 30^th April
• September to November placements – apply between 1^st – 30^th August

Our Selection Process

At Chattertons, we’re committed to ensuring a fair and transparent application process. We look for individuals who show genuine enthusiasm for the legal profession and the potential to contribute positively to our working environment.

We receive a high volume of applications each year, so while we’re unable to respond to every submission individually, we truly appreciate your interest in joining us.
