Tax Assistant - Sleaford, Lincolnshire
We have an exciting opportunity for a Tax Assistant to join our busy Private Client team. This is a newly created role in our growing Tax Team. We would expect the successful candidate to either be already specialising in this area or looking to specialise in this area.
We are seeking an individual who ideally holds a degree or professional qualification and/or has relevant professional experience within accountancy, tax or law.
This role will be supporting our Tax Team and will involve handling new client enquiries alongside routine tax work. The successful candidate will have direct client contact and will assist with, and progressively undertake, a varied caseload of ongoing tax compliance work and one-off advisory projects.
The ideal candidate will be able to work effectively under pressure, manage competing priorities, and meet tight deadlines. They will be committed to delivering an excellent client experience and maintaining the highest standards of client care.
Our tax department covers the following type of work and the Tax Assistant would be required to assist as needed.
Location: Based at Sleaford but with some travel to other offices
Department: Private Client Team
Hours: 9am – 5.15pm Monday to Friday
Salary: Dependent on experience
Key Responsibilities:
- Preparing Income Tax and Capital Gains Tax returns for individuals, estates and trusts.
- Preparing 60-day Capital Gains Tax submissions for the sale of residential properties.
- Preparing R185s for estates and trusts.
- Preparing estate and trust accounts.
- Providing clients with tax planning advice in relation to gifting, lifetime planning and Deeds of Variation.
- Providing tax advice to executors and trustees.
- Keeping the department up to date with tax, accounting and legislative developments through updates and internal training.
- Advising in relation to Agricultural Property Relief and Business Property Relief.
- Collaborating with other departments and external advisers on tax-related matters.
Key Duties:
- Providing assistance to the Tax Manager.
- Undertaking file opening and file closure procedures in accordance with the firm's requirements.
- Providing an ongoing service to existing clients.
- Working with partners and other fee earners to develop new business opportunities.
- Helping to develop and enhance both the Private Client and Tax teams, maximising cross-referral opportunities across all offices and areas of the business.
- Producing fee income in line with agreed targets and objectives.
- Keeping informed of developments in law, regulation and best practice relevant to the role.
- Maintaining and enhancing professional tax and accounting knowledge and skills.
- Managing financial control responsibilities, particularly cash flow through the collection of monies on account and billing procedures.
- Raising invoices for work carried out.
Candidate Profile
Essential Experience
- Experience in Accounts, Tax, Estates or Trust matters
- A genuine interest in Tax and Accountancy work.
- Commercially minded, with an understanding of client and business needs.
- Strong IT skills, including experience of case management systems.
- Up-to-date knowledge of relevant technical, regulatory and legislative developments.
- A clear understanding of Money Laundering Regulations and Solicitors Accounts Rules.
- High level of competency in using Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
Desirable Experience
- Qualifications in ATT and/or CTA.
- STEP Diploma or a willingness to study for this.
- An appropriate tax or accounting qualification.
- A genuine interest in Tax and Accountancy work.
- Commercially minded, with an understanding of client and business needs.
- Strong IT skills, including experience of case management systems.
- Up-to-date knowledge of relevant technical, regulatory and legislative developments.
- A clear understanding of Money Laundering Regulations and Solicitors Accounts Rules.
- Previous experience of SOS Connect.
- Previous experience of IRIS.
