A NEW DAY - A NEW EXTENSION

You may recall that I posted a blog in relation to evictions being halted again. Yesterday we learned from the Government that the ban in relation to bailiff led evictions is to be extended beyond the 31 March 2021.

It appears from Government sources that the ban on bailiff led evictions will now be extended to 31 May 2021. As per previous blogs there are certain exceptions to the ban and if in doubt as to whether or not your possession claim falls into one of those categories it is worth seeking legal advice to check your position.

The latest news is likely to impact upon the backlog of warrants that are currently in the system to be executed as and when the ban is lifted.

Those issuing Notices Seeking Possession should also be aware that the six month notice period to evict tenants has been extended to the 31 May 2021. Those issuing such notices should take legal advice as to the most appropriate notice against the factual background.

Will this be the last extension?

Does this extension fit into the Governments road map out of the current lockdown?

Only time will tell……
