New Local Info Source For Property Buyers

  • Posted

Have you used the new postcode information service yet which covers your area?

A free-to-use UK postcode information service has been launched which can be used by prospective buyers to find out large volumes of information about a locality before they even visit to view a property.

www.streetcheck.co.uk uses data from the 2011 Census broken down to provide a basic map of streets within a postcode, a breakdown of housing types, numbers of men v women, ages, races, age, health, employment status, educational achievement and so on.

This can apply over a large three-character postcode (e.g. EX3) or a much smaller and more specific six-character postcode (e.g. EX3 0AA).

The service, run by a Plymouth-based company called Wired Software, was launched just before Christmas and is now being publicised through a social media campaign. It not only carries 1.5m postcodes for England and Wales but also postcode data from Scotland and Northern Ireland.

Ordnance Survey, Royal Mail, Land Registry and Office of National Statistics data are drawn on by Streetcheck - all of its information is freely available anyway, but rarely can it be seen pulled together into such a user-friendly format.

Wired Software promises that the service will shortly have “area maps, street names, historical postcodes, house prices and much more besides” in the coming weeks.
