Claim a Lasting Power of Attorney refund

  • Posted

If you applied to register a Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA) between 1 April 2013 and 31 March 2017 you can apply to the Office of the Public Guardian to get part of your application fee back.

A claim can be made by either the donor who made the LPA or an attorney appointed by the donor in the LPA, the refund must be paid to the donor and you can only claim a refund if the LPA was made in England and Wales.  Each donor need only apply once, even if more than one LPA was made.

How much you get depends on when the fees were paid along with 0.5% interest and this is determined by when the payment was made.

When you paid the fee                     Refund for each Power of Attorney

April to September 2013                     £54

October 2013 to March 2014             £34

April 2014 to March 2015                   £37

April 2015 to March 2016                   £38

April 2016 to March 2017                   £45

A claim can be made online and you will need the donor’s bank account and sort code details.  It will take up to 12 weeks for a claim to be made.
