Probate Registry Fees are Increasing in May

  • Posted

Have you recently had a bereavement?  Are you responsible for dealing with the deceased’s affairs?  If so, you need to be aware that the Probate Registry is increasing its fees!

If you need to apply for a grant of probate (where there is a Will) or a grant of letters of administration (if the deceased died without a Will), then the fee that you are charged by the Probate Registry for making the application will change from May 2017.

The current fee is £155 for solicitor applications and £210 for personal applications.

The new fee will be calculated based on the value of the estate.  If the estate you are dealing with is valuable, this could mean a dramatic increase in fees.

We at Chattertons are committed to making sure that as many of our clients as possible are given the opportunity to make an application for a grant before the fee increase takes place.  We have a strong team of probate lawyers who can assess what work needs to be done in any particular estate and can then advise on the likely timescales for obtaining a grant with our help.

By drawing on its extensive knowledge and experience, our team could help you to make real savings on behalf of the estate.  But act quickly – the sooner you come to us for advice the more likely it is that we can help you avoid the new increased fees.
